Most workers are polite. The two doctors I’ve experienced over a three year period were knowledgeable. However, My two most recent experiences, have made me decide not to go back to them anymore. I will pick up my last pair of glasses that were ordered. I do appreciate the customer service of the assistant manager, via telephone. Also, for some reason, the two boxes of contact lenses that I ordered at the same time, have expiration dates, two years apart.

The first time I came in they put my name and email wrong in the system and gave me a printout with someone else’s name on the receipt. When I returned to pick up the frameI wanted to exchange them for another and they gave me this idiotic explanation for not being able to do it right then. I have had a very bad experience both times! I’m never going back to this place!

I typically avoid Walmart like the plague but I was looking for a place I could take my 8-year-old for an eye exam and first pair of glasses that wouldn’t break the bank, so I decided to give the vision center at this Walmart location a try.I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! From initial greeting, temp check/COVID screening and sanitizing, to check-in and filling out of paperwork, to the actual eye exam and frame selection, the entire visit went smoothly. Everybody was very professional and helpful. All equipment including chairs, glasses, etc. were sanitized in front of us which gave me peace of mind, and all staff members wore masks and enforced proper mask protocol.Dr. Lavin did a great job of explaining the different steps/tests during the eye exam in a way that my daughter could understand, while not being condescending as many adults are when speaking to children. The lady in the actual office that does the exams next door to the shop that sells the frames was transparent and upfront about the cost of the exam and what would or would not be done (for example, no air puff test and no dilation of pupils as that is typically done in those age 10+). I appreciated the fact that there were no hidden charges and I knew exactly what I was paying for. They have a decent selection of frames at a reasonable price, and they offer blue light filtering as well for a relatively small charge, which I opted for, since my daughter spends a lot of time on the computer/iPad.We don’t currently have vision insurance (and I didn’t want to wait til January when open enrollment begins and my husband can add our daughter to our vision plan), so I paid for the entire visit out of pocket. Your mileage may vary, but with the eye exam ($59), frames ($69), blue light filtering add-on ($30, or $15 each lens), polycarbonate coating to prevent breakage ($29, or $14.50 each lens), and 2-year protection plan ($28), our total came out to $215. They also offer 20% off a second pair, but I didn’t want to spend any extra today; however, this offer is valid for 30 days, which is nice if I change my mind. They told me the glasses will be ready in about two weeks, which is acceptable. You may be able to find cheaper frames online, but I felt the cost of the eye exam was reasonable and it was nice being able to have my daughter try the frames on in person. All in all, a good experience at this Walmart vision center; definitely worth checking out if you are in the need for an eye exam and/or corrective eyewear at a competitive price.
