Avoid at all cost, you get what you pay for.I brought my boat in the first time last year to have an outdrive leak fixed and have the bellows replaced. I just put 4 years of work into this boat to restore it/customize it and I wanted to be able to use it last summer, so seeing as I work long hours, I dropped it off here to knock it out fast and just front the bill so I could finally enjoy it- I was told 2 weeks, 3 tops. He didn’t even move it for 3 weeks, it sat. He started delving into it almost a month after I kept asking him how things were going. A couple weeks after that, I learned I needed to drop another large sum because my motor mounts were rotten and the motor settled lower, eating the teeth on the coupler. The one nice thing I can say is that he had a used one laying around that he sold me at half the cost of a new one. So, I’m now into it about $2000, the initial price was 900 something. A few months later I finally get my boat back, the bilge was spotless before, it’s now full of oil and grease- there were greasy handprints all over the gunwales and stern deck, I was mid paint job and only had primer down, so I had to sand that back down and reprimer again so the final coats would adhere. He also didn’t waterproof the motormounts he made Because water should never be that high in the bilge. My exhaust drains are right over them and would’ve rotted my stringers, destroying all I had toiled for in a hot garage for 4 years because he was too lazy to squeeze some silicone into the holes. There were also loose nuts and bolts in several places and a couple wires and grounds weren’t connected, so I went through all his work that I could get to and fixed what I could find. Before I could even take the boat out, the outdrive started leaking from a different spot than the one I took it in for- I had him go through the entire thing the first time and replace all the seals so I’d have no issues. I took it back, it sat some more. A couple weeks later he finds that a seal was pinched during assembly, he replaces it. I take it out for one run, it leaks again and it’s missing the exhaust bellow which he claims was never there and doesn’t come in a kit. I bought the kit, I have pictures, it was there. I take it back again, figuring third time is the charm. It sat some more, summer is now at an end. I got it back and the seals held for almost 7 months, I took it out 5 times this year, now my outdrive is leaking again from two places. So, after all is said and done, I paid roughly $2300 to have my motor mounts changed and a new coupler installed over a 9 month period.I’ll have another shop that I trust install a brand new outdrive with a warranty for the same price that wasn’t chewed apart with channel locks or whatever happened in the 9 months it was down. If you value your money, time, and your boat, you’d do the same. Harsh lesson learned, pony up the cash and pay the higher price at a reputable shop, never go the I know someone who can do it cheaper route. There’s a reason he has 20 something boats sitting in his yard, he doesn’t want to say he’s too busy and promises to get it done quick so he gets your money, and there it will sit, for months or more. Now I have to take out a loan to redo his work properly at another location and I’m out twice the money and ten times the time it would’ve cost me had I gone to a good shop in the first place.
