I walked into Don Fury Studio off the street after googling studios in the Capital Region back in 2011. I had no idea he was a legendary punk and hardcore producer, I just wanted to find someone in my area to record a few songs with my Americana/indie band, Los Chinches. Fury was a little suspicious at first, as he ought to have been, but as soon as I sent him some demos and scheduled a recording session he became an incredibly devoted advocate, engineer, producer and honorary band member. I got to learn all about his storied history in NYC, and not once did I feel like I was working with the wrong kind of recording engineer or producer because of the genre of music I played. Fury likes music. Period. He’s primarily a punk/hardcore producer, by vocation, but he loves anything with focus and passion.After a couple of years of coming for yearly recording sessions, I started to work with Fury as the head of a small independent record label. He was our regular mastering engineer, for many different styles of music, as well as an indispensable part of a lengthy and often difficult archival project.I wholeheartedly recommend Don Fury Studio for whatever your musical project is. Folk. Solo/acoustic. Instrumental. Mixing. Mastering. He’s a treasure of the Capital Region, and is happy to work remotely, too.

Fantastic drum room!We’re recorded several times now with Don at DFS, and the studio’s drum room is just outstanding. The ambiance and responsiveness of the room pulls all the dynamics and character out of the kit and makes them just sing. It is easily one of my favorite rooms to setup in and just play.As a drummer, I really find it refreshing to work with Don who doesn’t just see the drums as an afterthought but understands the drum sounds and dynamics are an integral part of the music. He works hard to capture your individual sound and then fine tunes those characteristics to fit each song during the mixing process. There’s no sound swapping (it’s just not needed with how great he gets the drums themselves to sound) or quantization, so the drums really come alive and sound fantastic.Whether you want tight mic definition or big room ‘Bonzo bombastics’, Don and his drum room deliver.-Johnny Riott, The Erotics
