Review Summary

The Adirondack Explorer is by far my favorite news magazine and is the only magazine that I regularly read cover-to-cover. It keeps me informed as to what is going on in the Adirondacks, especially on environmental topics but also other issues, giving in depth coverage that you won’t find elsewhere and giving both sides of controversial issues. The Explorer provides great tips and stories on hiking and paddling adventures, many suitable for families; and there are informative and entertaining columns on fauna and flora. The pictures are beautiful, especially in the magazine’s new format. I don’t normally look at advertisements in magazines, but the ads in the Explorer are really eye-catching and well done. Finally, I’d be remiss if I also didn’t mention their great series of easy-to-carry Short Hikes in … (Lake Placid, Keene Valley, etc.) hiking guides.

This is a fabulous resource for everyone from the occasional visitor to the Adirondack Park to full time residents. It is excellent journalism. Format is fabulous and the pictures are superb. Get both the print and online subscriptions. The online services expand the information available to you for planning activities, outfitting yourself, etc.

The Adirondack Explorer, online and the magazine, is my go-to source for news and information about the Adirondacks. It focuses on both recreation and protection of one of most beautiful places on earth. The photos are gorgeous too!
