I have been shopping with Lambert for years and I can’t believe the store is gone. I never had an issue with him. He was always courteous, helpful, and a joy to talk to. Will miss this place and him!

I’ve been getting parts and accessories for years at the old store, and now at 190 Monroe Ave. – in all that time, I can say I’ve only seen the manager act gruffly one time. All my other visits were helpful, friendly, and with a smile. My last visit was last year, when I brought in what I like to call my Mule for the Spring Tuneup special they had going. Let me tell you, what a JOY it was to ride my mule after the tuneup, fixed a flat tire, got all the gears shift smoothly, fantastic braking, just loving it. Probably left it there longer than I should have. Nothing but smiles when I picked it up. Photos are from April 23rd 2018 ride out to Long Pond Rd area of the Erie Canal from where I live at Main & Goodman. I put thousands of miles on this bike.

I can’t review a place I’ve never been. But I highly recommend reading the reviews posted here. It’s a dramatic walk through a complex set of interactions. Some are charming and heart warming. You can begin to see the shop, a little ramshackle from years of evolving parts and struggle to survive in a car dominated world. The trend of the bike comes and goes but the shop ensures. But then there’s a break. A clear break. The owner has had enough of retail and as customer’s expectations and internet interference increases, it’s a perfect storm that builds the drama. Not to be callous whatsoever. What I read is the incompatibility of change and age, of time and money, of artistry and economy. I hear a tired man who has likely done a world of work for the people in his community coming to a painful crossroads, with many miles still to go and the weather getting harder, it’s impossible to ask sometimes for grace under pressure. That the store has closed some will see as just desserts. But be careful what you wish for as the forces that weather a kind bike enthusiast into a impatient and unforgiving Scrooge lurk behind the forces that lure so many to the dream of owning their own business. This is a story of the American Dream and an American future. Bikes may be booming but for this shop, imploding came first.
