This side of a million years ago (ok, more like 32), I took an American Literature in the 1950s course at college. The instructors were two not-so-recovering hippies. About 60% of the class was spent on the Beats. And, so, I got to know Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti (and their friends) for the first time. I was hooked.
