Historic Huntington Pet Store Could Close If NYS Bill Passes …

Selmer’s Pet Land in Huntington Station will likely close if a New York State bill proposing the ban of sales of dogs, cats or rabbits is passed.

She gave us all the paperwork about the breeder and the family tree of the dog.

We stopped in Selmer’s Pet Land to take a look at their puppies. It was a great store and we had the pleasure of having Antonio help us out and answer our questions. We found the perfect puppy for our family and he helped us out along the way answering every question and detail from purchasing the Puppy, getting setup with a vet to make sure she gets fully vaccinated, how we should house train the puppy, and it’s proper diet and more. We just had our first checkup at the Vet and he said how great she was. I highly recommend Selmer’s and Antonio who normally works on the weekends! Thanks Antonio!

So for Christmas, I was gifted from my lovely brother the option of getting a puppy (I had been saying for the longest how much I wanted a new baby to love). He showed me a picture from Google of a Cavapoo and instantly I fell in love and knew this was the type of dog I wanted (I only wanted a small dog plus in my building, big dogs are not allowed so it worked out!)! After doing research into adoption and realizing there was no way I would find a Cavapoo in a rescue shelter, I turned to pet stores. I originally was interested in NY Breeder but after reading several reviews of where customers complained about purchasing puppies from this particular store only for to find out the dogs were sick (and poor/terrible interactions with the staff members/managers), I steered away from them. Then Selmer’s popped up and it was as if it was a sign!! 1) They had pictures online on their website of available puppies so you could see if there was one that caught your eye (NY Breeder didnt offer this–only said that you had to come into the store)! I fell in LOVEEEE with four different puppies (2 Cavapoos, 1 Havanese and 1 Malaschi)!! 2)Upon calling the store, I was EASILY able to make an appt to go and see about purchasing one. So my significant other, kids and I got into our car and drove all the way from Brooklyn to Long Island. 3)Upon arriving and entering the store, we were created warmly by a store member, who directed us to Antonio. We explained what we were there for and he took us straight downstairs to where the puppies are. 4) Antonio was very pleasant natured and knowledgeable; he informed us of the different breeds, what we were not allowed to do, etc. After we specified that I wanted a Cavapoo, he showed us the males and females. That day there was only 2 sisters left: one was actually going home that day BUTTT the one left—WAS ONE OF THE PUPPIES FROM THE WEBSITE THAT I HAD FALLEN FOR!!! TALK ABOUT SIGNS!!! Antonio took her out and brought us to an area where we could sit and play with her, to see if a connection was made. While there, Antonio (again, very knowledgeable) told us all about her (she was born 1/8) and allowed us to have a few moments alone with her. My son wanted to see a male puppy so what did Antonio do?? HE SWITCHED HER OUT AND BROUGHT A MALE CAVAPOO!! I did enjoy him too but my heart was set on the female, so he went back and she returned. Once we confirmed, Antonio informed us of her pricing and the options that were available to us. Originally, the plan was to put down a deposit and return for her; but my significant other said that he wouldnt be able to take me counting down that days till she was our, SHE CAME HOME THAT DAY!!! Antonio was very articulate in going through all the paperwork with us, explaining what we need to do, vet visits, microchipping, etc. Hr even got us a package deal with a crate and starter supplies! We settled on the name Cookie (after bouncing from Latte, Snickerdoodle and Oreo) because of the color of her coat (it’s a dark and beautiful apricot, like a golden oreo, Snickerdoodle or sugar cookie)! Cookie has settled into our home with no problems, always jumping around, running under our feet, and showering (me especially) with tons of kisses and sugar!! She was very quiet in the beginning but now more of her playful and spunky personality has emerged through; she playfully growls/barks while Im fixing her food, if Im just standing in front of her, talking to her! Antonio even reached out a few weeks ago to check on how Cookie is doing and adjusting (I loved this!!) Her first vet exam went excellent: she has a clean bill of health and received her vaccinations with no problems. I want to say thank you to Selmer’s and Antonio: YOU GUYS ARE EXCEPTIONAL IN THE SERVICE YOU PROVIDE! YOU MADE MY DREAM COME TRUE AND I COULDNT BE HAPPIER THAN I AM RIGHT NOW!!!! MY (SUGA) COOKIE HAS A FOREVER HOME AND FOREVER LOVE IN OUR HEARTS!!!

Great service. Great staff. Good and reasonable pet supply pricing. Good selection of puppy breeds. However, the puppy prices are ridiculous! Never have I seen a puppy cost more than $5,300. No puppy was less than $2,400. These are mixed breed prices – not even pricing for a full breed! Cheaper pricing for puppies elsewhere.
