I have been playing guitar (originally electric bass) since the mid 60s when I lived in upstate New York. Then, if you wanted what is now known as street price for an instrument you had to go to a major metropolitan area to spend what was often one’s parents’ money.Someone told my brother and me about Sam Ash in Brooklyn. The store was located on Kings Highway in Brooklyn. We went there because the prices were good. The street price was automatically (no bargaining required, or tolerated) 20% less than MSRP. If you had a union card, the discount was 40%. Over the years, we bought a Gibson EB-2, a Fender Baseman, a Gibson ES355 stereo guitar, a Super Reverb, and a Guild F-212.All with the help of pleasant knowledgeable sales staff who were all musicians. Do you wonder that, to this day, I still go to Sam Ash? The store in the Phoenix area, where I now live, is a little bit of Brooklyn right here nearby. I love the place, and I’m glad the store is here. Beats the stew out of the big box competition. It’s a great store, staffed by helpful people. Go there now!
