Today I walked into the Stop and Shop in Tarrytown, NY to conduct a transaction at an in-store People’s Bank.I approached the counter to fill out a deposit slip and then began counting cash. As I was counting, a woman approached me and started counting random numbers to throw off my count… it worked!!! I looked over at her, gave a nod of disapproval and restarted my count. As I made my way to the teller station and provided my transaction to the teller, the woman looped around the counter. She then introduced herself as Bibi (Sales and Service Supervisor). She stood behind the teller and read out my name from the deposit slip. She then started to probe me with questions about my work. Finally she got to the point and tried to cross-sell me a CD. This is all while I was on my lunch break (time constraint).I am appalled that someone who works for the bank that I am doing business with, would conduct herself in such childish behavior. I am a former (successful) private banker and I am aware of what her job can entail when it comes to making the most out of your customer visits (sales). This was a poor attempt to connect with me; very unprofessional and unappreciated. Please train your staff better!
