I was born in Martinez, attended Alhambra High. Bought my first home in Martinez, adopted my first child in Martinez. My fiancé and I would go to antique stores and this was our all time favorite one. Then my home was broke into while my three year old son and I were in bed for the evening . Within two months I accepted a marriage proposal , sold my home and moved out of Martinez. Moved to a Ranch in a quaint area of Vacaville, called English Hills. Only on occasion would we go to Martinez, and my husband and I would go to this Antique store, however there was a sadness in me going to Martinez for obvious reasons . At the time of the LNU fire, we had been on our Ranch for 38 years . Within fifteen minutes of leaving everything we had, ever owned, went upin smoke . I was in house slippers. Our son saved so many lives on Aug.19. He woke a lot of Country Neighbors up at the wee hours of the morning. My son brought me to Martinez today to look for Antiques . Some where along the line, he had spoken to a few of the ladies and soon ladies were coming to me expressing their heart felt condolences. One lady gave me a beautiful dish out of her own area. Other ladies called the sellers to get me the best price Possible . As I was lost in my own mind, another lady came up and said “ IUnderstand you Quilt?” I was totally caught off guard and I said “ I do , how did you know”? She smiled warmly and in a whisper she said,“News travels fast “ . Then I saw my son coming toward us. She said she belonged toA quilting guild and to leave my name and number before I left . What a wonderful store . What wonderful ladies. I gave the owner (Cynthia) my name and number and I sent her a picture of what I use to have (all my furniture and such) So she had an idea of what I am looking for . All you ladies renewed my faith in people and I thank you for that ! I wasn’t just a customer , you treated me like a home town girl and you didn’t even know me . Sincerely Paula
