Made a reservation via phone less than a week before the day we went kayaking. Had a reservation for the afternoon and at 10 am that morning I received a call that they had overbooked the time slot. They asked if we could do a later time and that they’d give me a 50% refund, so we agreed to that.We showed up a bit before our scheduled time and realized that the location is not directly on the lake (somehow totally missed that in my research). If you want help launching your kayak or have never kayaked before, keep that in mind. We gave the young person working there our name and he started to show us to our kayaks. I had to ask him if we had to sign a waiver or something (we did) but forgot to ask about the refund. We received brief instructions and then set out.Took us a few minutes to get our kayaks down to the beach where we could launch. My boyfriend went to put his life jacket on… it was a child’s size (definitely check before you leave to make sure you have the right size!). He ran back to the store and we launched.My kayak started taking on water but we didn’t think anything of it at first, thought maybe I was just splashing a lot. We eventually pulled over to a small beach and dumped it out. We re-launched and the same thing happened again, except it got to the point where my shorts had complete soaked through. I have kayaked many times before (in rivers, the ocean, other lakes) and have never taken on so much water, not even after hours of kayaking. There was no other public beach to get out and dump the water close by so we made it to a restaurant’s dock, called the store, and left the kayak there for them to pick it up. I would’ve kayaked back but it was getting to the point where I wasn’t able to maneuver well.My boyfriend kayaked back across the lake and I walked back. Was thankfully only a 10 minute walk or so. They didn’t seem too concerned when I showed up about our experience but they did refund us, so there is that.I’m thinking the plug wasn’t in the kayak. When we called the store we gave them the location of where we left the kayak but it was still at the dock the next evening (see pics). Will not be coming back and am not comfortable recommending this place to anyone.

Stopped in to rent skates for the whole family to get out on Mirror Lake over Winter Break. Met the owner Jake and his family. Couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. Rental skates were all high quality. Went out of his was to rent me a helmet so I could skate in Herb Brooks Arena as well. Didn’t make you feel like cattle which happens at many spots like this. I ended up buying some hockey gear from them as well. Support local business and give Locker Room 5 a shot for all your rental needs when visiting the Lake Placid region.

absolute beauty of an owner. Jake sure knows whats good. Best 1980 shop in town with real hockey equipment. Place is legendary.
