We stopped in Goliad for a short overnight stay at the end of May just after a bad storm so there were a lot of downed branches, muddy trails & TONS of vicious mosquitoes since this campsite does sit on a river. Nevertheless we still had a great time. The check-in process was efficient & the rangers were very friendly. We only had time to visit the mission and museum which were simply incredible. We really enjoyed learning about the Native American history and the church’s role in their colonization.

This is such a great park! We decided to camp overnight with kids + dog to break up the long drive from Houston to S. Padre Island. We reserved Shelter 2, which was just a short walk from the mission, the restroom, and the playground. I loved that each site was spacious, and I felt safe letting my kids just be kids. The historic mission part elevated this campsite in my mind compared to other locations we’ve visited. No site is perfect, but this one was pretty good 🙂

Great history. Mosquito hell! We left running back to the car literally covered with mosquito swarms!!! We grabbed sanitizer to coat ourselves and treat the bleeding. We really felt that park should come with a warning. I’ve never experienced anything like that. This is our second trip to Texas and we are campers. From the country. So we have been around mosquito s.
