I love large shallow bowls. I don’t know if there is a name for them, usually about 10 in diameter but only about 3 tall. Theyre perfect for rice and noodle dishes. When a bowl i had used for 15 years finally broke i tried really hard to find a replacement.Luckily, I found Chanco. While I didn’t find an exact replica (which makes sense since it was originally purchased in 2009ish), I found multiple great alternatives at good prices.They have a huge selection of serveware. They have plastic and paper to-go containers, reusable plastic bowls and plates glass, glass Tupperware and higher end ceramic plates and bowls.Service was friendly, and accept credit card. Parking was easy for China Town: They have an underground parking garage next door which is only like $2 for an hour, but the first hour is waived if you buy more than $20 in their store. Good deal!

I like it. All the attributes and characteristics of a well stocked restaurant wares supply house (not food), but with a decided flare to pan-Asain cuisine. Satay skewers, special tea filters, clay pots, wanabe, sushi boats, hangiri, joss sticks; if it has to do with Eastern styled food and beverage preparation and dining ambience they probably have it. It is clean, well lighted, wide aisles, everything is priced, high end high quality items and plastic stuff, staff are attentive and helpful.

I just found out that Chanco is still open and I am thrilled! I last visited during the covid shutdown and thought they had gone under (knock on wood) because it was boarded up; thank goodness it was just temporary. I really love this place and make it a point to stop in any time I’m in Oakland. They have a small parking lot that’s free to customers and a vast selection of dinnerware, home-cook and professional kitchen tools and equipment. Great place, great value, reminds me of the mom and pop’s shops in my neighborhood growing up, but a little bigger.
