One of the longest operating bookshops in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Barner features a wide selection of books including used, out-of-print and rare books. It also has an assortment of handmade journals, notebooks, and goods of interest to its book loving customers. The shop is housed in an historic buidling in the heart of New Paltz – close to the Shawangunks (Catskills) Mountains, SUNY-New Paltz, in an idyllic traditional downtown setting.

We were just passing through town and stumbled upon Barner Books and were positively delighted by the shop. It had a great selection of used books and fun items to shop from. I particularly loved the occasional curated sections (mini books! great vintage editions!) where I nabbed a lovely vintage and pristine copy of Middlemarch. The shopkeeper was also so kind and great to chat with – just a very positive experience all around. I will surely be back to New Paltz for Barner Books alone.
