Anawalt is one of a few independent hardware/lumber stores left in the LA area. The big box stores ( the two majors) drove most of them out of business. I admit it, I shop at them too. Back to Anawalt. The employees are helpful. Something that I don’t find at the big box stores. The Anawalt employees actually help you locate something. Big box employees generally just point in the general direction of the item or they tell you an aisle to go to which (in my experience is wrong more than 75% of the time). Heck, I recently went to a big box store to look for an item which their website said had six of the particular items in stock and on the shelf. They didn’t. So anyways, back to Anawalt. I hope they can survive as I do like the convenience of going there. Yeah, it may not be mom and pop but from what I have been told, it is still family owned.

This is my hardware and lumber go-to over the big box stores. Despite having the appearance of a “small” store, it is surprisingly well stocked. They always seem to have that one weird thing I can’t find anyplace else. Their staff is extremely helpful! My litmus test for staff responsiveness is how long it takes to get someone to unlock the spray paint cabinet. I have never had to wait more than a minute or two before someone shows up with the keys!

Quick in n out is always appreciated, as well as not having to walk 1/4 mile for each item needed.You can’t go 20′ in this place without someone asking if you need assistance, as opposed to Hello! Is there anyone in this section? Followed by pressing the assistance button 10 times before anyone comes to your aid, about a half hour later. By that time, I need a shave and a nap!More importantly…. the prices are so far very decent. I didn’t notice any price gouging necessary to pay for the extra assistance.
