The Alabama State Capitol Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. A great place to visit if you are in the downtown area. I took my son last week and he enjoyed touring the grounds, rolling on the hills and climbing the stairs leading up to the grand entrance. Once inside, he was fascinated with the art, dome and history. Below are a few photos that I have taken over the years.

Beautiful grounds, but the building is pretty bland as far as capitol buildings go. Only way to see inside it is on a tour. Our guide today, Aroine, was incredible…not just a job to this guy…he knows his history and presented it well. Beautiful arch of state flags with local marble name stones.

I have been to several state capitols (Washington, Oregon, Texas, New York) but Alabama was something special. Exceeding well-kept and maintained but inside and out. I was impressed by the tasteful remembrance of their state’s history (to include the Confederate years). While overall impressive, be prepared for a security check and allow yourself at least 45 minutes to an hour outside and 90 minutes or more inside. While not a must-see place, if you have the spare time visit.Admission is free and the gift shop accepts debit and credit cards along with cash.
