I have owned my own welding tanks for 35 years. I would exchange them at the Red Bluff location sporadically, maybe a couple of times in a week then not for five years if I didn’t have any big projects. I am a hobby welder, but have good Mig, tig equipment, and Oxy/ac torches, some of which I bought at the Red Bluff location. A few years ago it became a hassle exchanging tanks there–they would always say I was renting tanks, needed a new lease, etc. After talking to a manager, they would straighten it out, someone would remember’, and I would hand over my money and be on my way. Recently I had the misfortune to be low or empty on six tanks of different gasses, I dreaded going in there. I spoke to a friend and former professional welder and a long time local rancher. He had been a longtime customer of airgas as well. Since he had to fill up their ranch bottles he told me to throw them in his truck, they never give me any trouble. Famous last words…trouble. on all of mine AND his! He brought all of our tanks back unfilled, and we found a new supplier that was all too familiar with the story from Airgas. hey, the counter guys are nice, they always had rod and helmets and lenses, they were willing to order stuff when I needed it, but the tank exchange left such a sour taste in my mouth I cant deal with them anymore.
