Review Summary

While our stay at Navy Lodge NASNI was even more pleasant than anticipated, our experience with the mini-mart was not. The supply and selection of beverages was quite adequate, including juices, sodas, wine and beer, with one exception. I purchased what looked like a promising bottle of imported Asti displayed in the chilled beverages cabinet. Upon attempting to open the bottle (with a standard manual cork screw) the neck of the bottle snapped apart sending tiny shards of glass flying of in several directions, cutting the palm of my hand, and leaving a lovely blue glass ring attached to the extremely dry cork. I returned the defective product to the mini-mart and was given a refund, once the clerk figured out how to accomplish the transaction. However, when I advised the clerk that the other bottles of the product might bear examination I was told the manager would have to be contacted before the product could be removed from the shelf, even temporarily as a safety measure to protect the customers from a repeat of my own unpleasant experience, and that I should contact the manager who would be at some other location on the following business day. This was, of course, on a Friday afternoon. Fortunately, no one bought any of the remaining bottles, and no further injuries were reported. However, I learned of another incident in which a customer purchased a child’s inflatable flotation device which the guest was later advised by the staff could NOT be used in the Lodge pool. Yet, the clerk at the mini-mart neglected to mention the fact to the customer before she left the mini-mart for the pool which was about 50 yards away. The customer implied the return process would just not be worth the effort.Again, I would like to point out the fact that while the Lodge Staff was courteous and very professional and would often offer their assistance or information without having to be asked, the mini-mart staff was not quite so accommodating.
