This is a smaller Safeway, country type environment. Unfortunately they didn’t carry the Green Dot prepaid card I needed. But they where so great in trying to find out if they did. Thank you for your effort!

This is the only option for many once you head up Carmel Valley Road after 7 PM. It’s a smaller, older store than most in that chain, so has a limited (and more expensive) selection than it’s corporate counterparts, but it has the basics, and the folks on the floor have been friendly and willing to help, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars…I stopped here one night after a very long and exhausting work day because it was late and I realized I didn’t have ingredients for dinner at home, was too tired to cook, and I just wanted some quick, reasonably healthy comfort food. There were raw chickens on sale for 99 cents/lb, but the sign on the hot ready-to-eat case said the pre-roasted chickens were only $5 ($2 more), so I decided to give myself a break. Waited 5 mins in best socially distanced lines they can produce in a small space without making aisles one way with arrows (there’s no express checkout here), until the manager opened a second register. The chicken rang up full price. I showed her the sign, and she pointed out is was only of you bought 5 or more. I couldn’t eat or store 5 and didn’t have the energy to argue, or re-shop and cook a raw one, so I paid almost triple the cost for the ready to eat option.Got home, cut into it, and it was still raw inside with the juices running red even though the exterior looked perfect! Maybe they rushed the mass production roasting process to have extra on hand for the special?I had to cook it for other 70 minutes to get the juices to run clear and raise the interior temp to a safe enough level to kill any bacteria that might have been growing in that raw in center chicken as it sat there in the case for who knows how long waiting for purchase….which is as long as it would have taken to roast a raw one for 1/3 the cost. That’s not just an inconvenience, it’s a health hazard. To anyone who buys these precooked chickens, please, please, please check them before you serve them to be sure they’re fully cooked, or your family could get food poisoning.I’m simply not willing to take chance again.
