Customer Support
Spent over $500 on weightlifting equipment, came back within 7 days to return two items but they won’t give cash back without a receipt. Lost the receipt but staff couldn’t look up my purchases those I had the card date and time of purchase. Only the owner could do it and they couldn’t be contacted. The worst part was the cashier attitude toward the attempted return. I can collect points and my info history is in the system but they can’t look up my purchase without the owner. Store credit is the only option. Sadly I won’t be using it because I won’t be returning to such an unhelpful store. Waste of time & poor customer experience.

The store is in a great location. This store is also very well kept. All the merchandise in the store looks clean and in good condition. They have rather good prices on their surfboard collection. The boards they take in with fins they resell the boards in the same manner as they purchased it with the fins; however, no worries if a particular board wasn’t sold to them with fins, they have them for sale behind the counter. Along with an array of sunscreen, board wax, and pads to suit your surf needs and wants. The reason I am only giving this store 2 stars is due to the fact that I sold “Play it Again Sports” a BRAND NEW (NEVER worn nor “tried on”, still in the original plastic bag with tags attached) set of Burton L.A.M.B Johnny Pant with suspenders snowboard pants that retail at $279.00 for a hell of a deal $75.The young buyer, her name is “Ocean” told me, “they were required to write me a check since my sale was over $20” and it would be cashable that day. I said, “Perfect! No worries!” Or so I thought…..I happily took the check for $75 and drove to the nearby Chase Bank listed on their check to cash it. Here is where this gets interesting…. CHASE BANK informs me because I do not bank there that I will be charged $8. “EIGHT DOLLARS!?!?” I exclaimed.I said to the bank that I should not have to pay that ridiculous fee out the money I was supposedly making for the sell of my goods. I immediately called the store to let them know about the fee and the buyer said, “she was unaware of the bank fee”. I explained further that I should not have to pay this ridiculous fee out the money I just earned form the sell of my goods. And furthermore, I would return there shortly with my receipt from Chase Bank proving the ridiculous fee so they could reimburse me the $8. We agreed and hung up.Upon returning I was greeted by a young male shop worker and he said that Ocean would right with me. Explaining to him what had happened, he agreed “the fee was really crazy!”So instead of Ocean, I was greeted by the OWNER, he is a rather overweight man with an attitude and a excuse. He proceeded to tell me while looking at the receipt from his chosen Chase Bank, that he is required by the State of California to write a check to anyone with goods for sale above $20.Then he also adds, extremely unsympathetic and “matter-of-factly”, that he should not have to be responsible for the bank charging his seller $8 to cash the checks he writes for purchases over $20! AND, that he has been doing this for 15 years and has NEVER heard of this from anyone else in all those 15 years!! I debated his idea and explained my thoughts. All the while he argued any logical statements made by me, his body language also quite clear that he would not reimburse me and failed to take any responsibility what-so-ever for the outrageous charge… I finally said, “Well this certainly is not a fair deal to your sellers!” And as he shrugged me off one last time, I said, “Would you at least split the fee and give me $4.00?? Because it’s ludicrous to say that I have to be responsible for this solely.Reluctantly, and with “guilt induced” manipulation in his body language and tone, he reaches in his pocket saying, “I’ll give you the $4 out of my own pocket this time, but you should have put it in your own bank.”HOW IS THIS MY FAULT FOR WANTING THE CASH THAT WAS PROMISED WHEN I WAS TOLD THEY WERE GIVING ME A CHECK FOR THE $75 SALE of MY GOODS to them?!? I would have cashed anyone’s check at their bank…Especially when “told by an employee that it was ‘cashable today’!!I don’t deposit anyone’s check in my bank due to lack of trust it will clear… because I have had this happen a time or two and know I’ll be held responsible for depositing a bad check from someone else.Get REAL “Play it Again Sports of Oceanside”… this is the first and last time I do business with them.As for the reluctant reimbursement of $4, I handed it to the first homeless person along my path after leaving the store.

I went here to pick up a deck and picked out some grip tape from the display on the wall. The worker told me they were sold out, but called another employee over and asked if they had anymore in the back. The other employee said they didn’t and she didn’t think they were going to order any more. Obviously I’m standing there hearing this so I ask if I can just buy the one off the wall as it’s just tacked up there anyway. She says sorry but they can’t do that. I say but didn’t you just say you probably aren’t ordering more? So can I just buy this one since you won’t carry it anymore anyway? She says no she needs it for the display. I don’t know why this still irks me but it does. If you don’t sell it anymore, it shouldn’t be on the display anymore. If you’re not planning to order anymore or carry it anymore, then I don’t understand why I was denied the sale. Kind of seemed like one of those yeah I probably could but not to YOU situations.
