“We charge a little less, so our neighbors could have a little more.” – Don Mathis. In 1960, two brothers, Don and Bud Mathis, took that idea and changed the furniture industry, opening the first Mathis Brothers Furniture. The concept gave customers the chance to buy the furniture they needed at low prices without having to wait for a sale. It revolutionized the furniture business and helped make Mathis Brothers Furniture one of the largest independent furniture retails in America. Today, Mathis Brothers remains a family-owned business with Don’s sons, Bill and Larry and Bill’s children, Rit and Kerry, working together to continue to innovate the way you shop for furniture.

When we got home we realized that the size wouldn’t work for the space.

The store is HUGE and has a small restaurant and bar (yes, you can walk around with a beer or glass of wine). I thought the prices were a little high. At most stores I’ve shopped at, I’m greeted and left to my own devices which I appreciate. However here, a salesperson will great you when you walk in and then follow you around the floor for 20 minutes. If you stop to look at something and spend more than two minutes there, they try to assist you with purchasing that item. I like to get the lay of the land and do some research before I make a big purchase. It’s a strange feeling having someone follow you around. I know they’re looking for a commission, but it was weird. After 20 minutes, she had me take a picture of her business card so I could call her if I was interested in anything on the floor and other salespeople would know we were working with her. I didn’t like that vibe, so I won’t be going back to shop there.

Ali is a really nice guy and very helpful. He is honest and cares about his customers. Jonathan at the bistro is awesome too! That was the most fun we ever had shopping for furniture. We definitely recommend you see Ali for your furniture needs and then have a beer or a glass of wine at the bistro, while you decide which sofa to get. Jonathan will take good care of you.
