FLAX art & design, the Bay Area’s most well-loved retail art supply business, has been serving the creative community since 1938. Our stores are conveniently located in Downtown Oakland, and along San Francisco’s north side waterfront at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Whichever location you choose, as customers often say, FLAX is a candy store for the creative. A family-owned business headed by Howard Flax, who represents the third generation along with his brother Craig and their sister Leslie Flax Abel, FLAX has a long history supporting artists and the Bay Area arts community.
Family-owned operation offering 10,000 sq. ft. of arts & crafts supplies.

Broad selection of art and art-related supplies. Spacious, well-ventilated building, brimming with inspiring and unconventional materials for all types of artistic projects. Went in during an artist’s block and came out inspired and stocked for my next series; all for under $100! If you’re in the east bay, this is a great option for local art supplies. Give it a go!

The space is huge and everything is very organized. It’s very easy and pleasant to look for stuffs. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. Since I found Flax, I rarely go to Michaels anymore.
