this place is a bit of a spiritual successor to the late great Funtime USA. if you grew up in Brooklyn or Queens you definitely went there for birthday parties. coincidentally, 17 years ago at Funtime was the last time I played laser, and once again for a Ukrainian friend’s birthday.a group of us descended upon IES for a private birthday party shoot-em-up bonanza. we filled out our waivers ahead of time, paid upfront ($28/head) and entered the battle zone!we played in the zombie laser tag arena, but without the zombies. it costs more for that, as those are people in costume. anywho, that arena was great for us. a central room for reloading, respawning after you die, and checking your scores after the game, which is also where the referee sits. 8 doors to respawn from, so you can avoid campers.major props to Jonathan, our referee. real chill kid, went through the rules and operating quickly and efficiently!since this arena was smaller, they ask that you do 5 vs 5 and rotate out people between rounds so everyone can play (we had 14 people).rounds are really quick – maybe 10 minutes – and at the end of a round you can see scores for each player. we played for an hour and a half, everyone got time to play.they have generic war sounds and zombie noises, but if you have an mp3 player or phone you can hook that up and battle with your friends to your own playlist. truly EPIC!we also got a nice spacious room with TVs, granite tables and comfortable seating so those who weren’t playing could relax. if you bring food, drinks, or jackets, you can leave it all in here. I wish the TVs in our lounge had video feed of our game in progress. that would be really awesome.YOU WILL GET SWEATY. dress comfortably. short sleeves are probably best. the ventilation does need to be improved.they sell water and soda out in the lobby if you need. $1 for a water bottle was surprisingly cheap.the same place has other laser tag arenas, as well as indoor paintball, archery, and a host of other games (Time Crisis, knock hockey, etc).I’LL BE BACK! LASER TAG WARRIORS, COME OUT TO PLAAAAAY!
