… so we didn’t get to walk all the way to the water. The visitor center is super nice and is like a mini museum. The store is also quite cute with a lot of unique items.

Even though the buildings are closed, the nature trail was still open. Such a great treat to enjoy the outdoors on such beautiful property.

If you’re looking for an open-air excursion wrapped up in American history, Sagamore Hill could be your place if you find yourself in Long Island. Close to the scenic water spots of Oyster Bay and its quaint downtown, you’ll find the house and property on top of a nearby hill in an elite and clean neighborhood. While we couldn’t venture indoors due to COVID, we walked around as did many families and a surprisingly large amount of folks with dogs. There is a short but somewhat steep nature trail nearby leading to a lovely beach walk where you can observe oysters in a marsh and tiny black crabs. You can also circle round the Roosevelt houses on the property and lounge a bit, which people did, at safe distance. On a sunny day when the wind is blowing, it can be a restful and relaxing time.Opinions about Teddy abound, but at the very least you can touch and walk in “history,” and the area is safe, well maintained, and a good spur for conversation.
