TL:DR Verizon broke my phone by inserting the SIM the wrong way, won’t claim responsibility for it, and I’m SOL.Just had one of those experiences where I wish I could give Zero stars. I brought my Google Pixel 3XL in to get a replacement SIM card as it had occasional issues with No SIM card inserted and my mobile data would drop out. I had previously used the correct tool to insert into the SIM card tray ejector hole at the bottom of the phone to check the condition of the SIM card. I found it had some corrosion/scraping of the copper contacts, mostly due to the fact I’ve had the same SIM card for four phones now and which I thought merited replacement. The Solutions Manager greeted me immediately and asked me what the issue was and began the process of replacing my SIM. He left and came back to the front with a new SIM card and started to find my SIM card location to replace it. I understand there’s dozens of models of phones Verizon carries, but for a person who claims they’ve been in the business for 11 years, maybe they should’ve known it’s on the bottom. He used his tool to remove the SIM card holder, added the new card, and tried inserting the holder 3-4 times before finishing. He handed the phone right back to me and said it should be fixed at this point. I didn’t see the 4G or telephone reception bars on at that point, but figured I needed to restart it for them to appear. After shutting down and restarting numerous times on the way home with no success getting mobile data again, I decided to remove the SIM card again and check things out. I pulled the card holder out and noticed a small copper piece and another small plastic piece fall out of the holder hole and noticed the card was inserted the wrong way! My SIM card holder has a 45 degree notch that dictates the way the card should be sitting and it was put in backwards with the wrong corner of the card sitting on the notch.I’m sure this is what caused the damage because the brand new SIM card now had fresh gouges in the copper that a normal insertion would not cause. The corrosion may be due to my phone getting wet previously which the Solutions Manager noted when he saw my water indicators. This had no bearing on the situation as my phone previously worked with the aforementioned pieces still intact. After a second conversation with the Solutions Manager and online via text chat, Verizon won’t accept fault or offer good faith help on a phone replacement, so now I’m SOL.
