Review Summary

Laura Ambrose
Hudson Babylon has some unique pieces of vintage costume jewelry that can be hard to find elsewhere. My experience here started well, but then I made the mistake of buying a vintage jacket. I paid $400 PLUS ~$50 tax. When I brought it home I adjusted one of the straps and the buckle fell off. I knew it was older, but also know that alternations on leather are very pricey and that this just shouldn’t have happened. I was relieved to see the store return policy, that they would give store credit for the amount spent within 14 days. I called the store owner to explain the situation and she questioned whether it was my fault for the buckle to come loose but confirmed that this was the policy. She said she would only give me $350, though, and no tax return. Reluctantly I accepted my painful loss of $100 and shipped the jacket back but then received a call from the owner saying that she was going to change her policy so that anything vintage (which is the entire store) could not be returned for store credit. She said in my case (before the policy switch) she would use my $350 to have her professional leather tailors in NYC fix the coat and then give me the remaining amount (which I’m assuming would be next to nothing). In the end, I decided to fix it myself and keep the jacket. This is terrible customer service. If you ever have a complaint or something falls apart expect to receive many texts and calls from the snippy owner. My best advice is to BE 100% SURE that your purchase is in perfect condition and know that there is no option of return.
