Price-gouging and poor service in the time of coronavirus. I took my phone with a cracked screen to Dave for replacement. I was charged $150, which is an extremely inflated price, even for Kodiak standards. The screen was fixed about a week later, but the speaker was no longer working (it was certainly working when I brought it in). I asked Dave if it was possible that he forgot to reconnect a speaker wire during the repair. He said it was impossible. He said he would charge me $75 to look at it again, plus parts and taxes, etc. When I suggested that he stand by his repair job, he said, you’re just like everyone else here, you want your (expletive) fixed but you don’t want to pay for it. Indeed, I refused to agree to another overpriced repair and walked out with my still-broken phone. Later, I took the phone to a repairman in Anchorage who, for $35, confirmed that Dave had simply failed to reattach the speaker wire after repairing the screen. It’s a real shame that Dave has such an unhelpful attitude toward the good folks in Kodiak who pay him handsomely for his unearned monopoly on phone and computer repair. I hope soon Kodiak will have some much-needed competition in this field.

Had an emergency with my cell phone today (a Saturday). Went by Stellar Computers and Dave Winters was able to make several suggestions as to what my phone issues might be. He was quick and efficient all the while telling me what he could do and the results I could expect. He had plenty of work to do on electronics in his shop but took the time to fit my cell in knowing that there was no way he could possible close on time and return to his home. I will definitely be passing the word on the work he was able to do on my iPhone.
