This wonderful store is a block from our home; another grocery store is also within an easy stroll from our place, but 9 times out of 10 we shop at Grocery Outlet. Grocery Outlet is far more affordable, the staff is friendly and efficient, and they greet regular customers by name. Most items are ‘brand name’ and perfect quality. You might have to check expiration dates on perishable items, but rarely do I find anything close to, or out of date.Shopping here is a bit of ‘hit or miss’. You can’t go in with a shopping list and expect every item to be available. Peanut butter? Yes, but not necessarily your preferred brand. Tea bags? Usually not. But, somethings are always available, at low prices, with great selections: olive oils, wine (some real deals here if you’re familiar with the selections on the shelf) and an amazing array of table cheeses. We typically buy fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and other staples here. Admittedly, when we do buy meat or poultry we go to the food coop or farmers’ market. If we need a particular item, maybe vanilla extract, or baking soda, or a spice that’s a bit uncommon, etc. we head to a bigger (triple the price) grocery store. But, overall, we much prefer Grocery Outlet.

I find good deals here all the time. Sometimes jackpot finds like gourmet frozen foods that are there one week and gone the next. Good deals on fresh meat and sometimes fresh packaged salmon. That’s it for seafood though, but look in the freezer section for more options. And their wine selection is pretty amazing, most bottles are between 5 and 10 bucks it seems. Some of them are very good, most are at least decent. Look closely at your bargain vegetables though, sometimes they are on the brink if you know what I mean. Commonly there’s a colorful local loitering on the sidewalk outside, so if you’re looking for a place to get rid of your spare change you’re all set.
