My girlfriend and I have been to Englebardt’s fairly regularly since we moved to Schenectady. I have to say out of all of the liquor stores in the area that I’ve been to, I have never received such bad customer service. The older gentleman there eyes me up and down throughout my time in the store like he’s expecting me to steal something. Every time I walk in. Not to mention every question I’ve ever asked there has been returned with an abrupt and cold answer. I understand that I’m a younger man and if you work in a liquor store you need to take precautions to cover yourself. I work in a smoke shop. So when it comes to ID’s, larceny, and such, I get it. That being said, are you kidding me? The energy I received there is absolutely not how any customer should feel in a place of business. Shop there for convenience, not for service.

I have come here sparingly within the past two years, but often enough to be recognized as a regular. There have been times where I had good customer service, but for the most part it hasn’t been too friendly or rather it’s worse since another cashier that was pleasant is no longer there.The icing on the cake was being charged an abrupt minimum purchase fee of $5 even though it would be in cash. I didn’t see any signs that stated this and have not heard of a policy requiring it concerning petty cash. I have searched far and wide and don’t see where the policy would be enforced (legally).I even confirmed with the cashier if he meant a minimum for cash and they replied with a cold, $5 minimum purchase. This is the first time they decided to make this change ever since I’ve gone and personally it will be the only time.I loved coming here out of convenience and could handle the sketchy customer service, but when it seems you’re trying to unjustly take my money away, even if it’s a dollar, all because you feel like it, I refuse to let it go unnoticed.
