The gentlemen at TX8 saved me in a bind, and for that I’m grateful. I’d been having engine temp issues all the way on my drive from San Diego to Portland and was now half way back home. I started my day in Berkeley ready to drive south, and saw that my fix to adjust the coolant hose was not only no longer working, but was beyond my power. And I needed to get on the road. First shop I tried couldn’t see me that day (a Saturday). Second try was TX8 and they told me to come in. When I got there, I realized they’re a bit of a fancy car shop, and I was humbled that they’d look at my Chevy Sonic. I showed them the hose and they said they often don’t have the parts; they can be hard to obtain during the pandemic, and they often have to send from Stockton or even the midwest. They said they’d call me in about two hours after they had a look. I’m picturing at least wasting a day in San Leandro when I was meant to be close to Santa Barbara that night. And at worst, them having my car for a week or more. I called a Chevy dealer, thinking they might have the parts, but they said they couldn’t look at it till Monday. I started considering options – rent a car and drive home, then drive back in a week or two?; sell my car and worry about getting a new one later?; get an airBnb and say in the Bay Area all week? They called in about 45 minutes to say they diagnosed the issue and found the part in the area and would have it within two hours. They called back about 45 minutes after that to say it was ready to pick up.I regret I was too stressed to get the two gentlemen’s names. They were both professional and honest and overdelivered. I was looking at a week of hell, and I was on the road again within a couple hours on a Saturday! I owe them a huge thanks.
