The 99¢ store in Salinas is different than the chain Dollar Tree because you never know what interesting treasure you will find. Where Dollar Tree is predictable with a set inventory; the 99¢ store has some things consistently, but also has a rotating limited time selection of merchandise. If you hit it just right you can find a cute Disney toy, a sloth lunchbox, or a low priced pillow. As with all dollar stores their prices aren’t all a dollar anymore. Prices have increased to reflect the tariffs put on Chinese imports.

9:30 am on a Sunday. 22 people in line, 2 cashiers open. The floor looks very dirty throughout the store and while the shelves are well stocked, most things are disorganized and piled everywhere in the displays.
